39.5″ x 49″ Mixed Media on Linen by Mary Donnelly.
” I first sketched my friend as she sat in my favorite chair. The linen cloth was just stapled to my wall, ending on a corner that turns into my living room, where she sat. A great spot for painting. So I drew her live with chalk pastels.
The next time I worked on her, I appplied a clear gesso over the whole canvas, and laid it on thick over the parts I planned to paint. After that dried, I filled in the oil paint on her face, skin, and clothes. I love the glow from the sheerness of the see through linen
cloth around her jaw line because I left that exposed of paint. The whole thing is raw and elegant.”
